Christy Karpinski is a fine art photographer born and raised in Arizona. She received a BA in Women's Studies from the University of Arizona in 1997. In her academic studies she focused on issues of identity and of how we makes sense of ourselves and others in the world. Many of these ideas and explorations have carried over into her photographic work. Christy earned an MFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2005. Since then, she has been teaching photography at Columbia College Chicago and working on photographic projects.

Christy received the Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award in photography for 2007 as well as an Award of Excellence from the Cook County Treasurer's Office. She received two honorable mentions for work from her series "Formation".

Her work has been exhibited at a number of galleries as well as the Griffin Museum of Photography . It has also been published in – Wondertime, Shots, StoryQuarterly, File Magazine, Foto Pozytyw, Feline, Altar, as well as the books -  Home Life, A Field Guide to the North American Family, COPA exhibition catalog, and the artist’s book Invisible.
